WHEN WILL JESUS RETURN?
Can we know?
Fellow believers,
If you are visiting my website out of curiosity or because you believe the Second Coming of Christ is imminent, then I want to make a clarification lest anyone misunderstand the purpose of this site.
First, I would like to say that I personally believe Jesus WILL return soon, hence the name for this website. I also know many others who believe the same, from personal family and friends to many prominent - and not so prominent - pastors and evangelists. Many signs foretold by Jesus Himself that herald His return seem to be at hand.
I call your attention to Jesus' own "last days" warning signs in Matthew 24:4-15. Just a few of those include false prophets, wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution and slaughter of His followers, lawlessness, and many believers abandoning the faith.
Sound familiar? How about tonight's news?
And there's even more to make your hair stand on end: read it in Matthew 24:37-39
Additionly, Revelation warns of a "one world government" under the control of a satanic religious leader who requires allegiance to him and the false religious system under pain of punishment and death. See Revelation 13:15-17.
Does that, too, sound vaguely familiar from the evening news and more than just a little scary?
That said, Jesus gave one sign that He said would tell us when it's all but over: the Good News of His salvation would be preached throughout the world . . . and then the end will come (see Matthew 24:14). While I don't know if anyone really knows for certain how far the Gospel has actually spread around the earth, I think we can say with certainty that with all the modern technology at our disposal today, progress most definitely is being made. And we shouldn't discount the personal trials and sacrifices being made by thousands of missionaries, many of them martyred for their beliefs. (Remember Jesus' warnings about that from a couple of paragraphs above?)
But the second and main point that I want to make clear is that actually NO ONE knows for certain when Christ will come again.
Jesus said that no one knows the day nor the hour that life on this earth will end . . . not the angels or even Jesus Himself. God the Father Alone has that knowledge (Revelation 24:36). Acts 17:31 reveals that our Heavenly Father has "appointed a day" but that day hasn't come yet.
Furthermore, Jesus said that when He does return it will be a surprise! He said we must remain vigilent because He will come at an hour when we don't expect Him. (Matthew 24:42-44)
So, we can conclude from this mini Bible study about the Second Coming of Christ that no one apart from the Father knows for certain when Jesus will return. However, Jesus did say that when we see all these things happening to look up and know that He is near, even at the door! (Mark 13:28,29)
Even so, come, Lord Jesus! Amen!
