Synopsis of "Remember Lot's Wife"
CHAPTER ONE - Remember Lot's Wife
The opening tells of Jesus' account of the last days and of things to watch out for at that time. He warns us to "Remember Lot's wife." We will recount the story of Lot and what befell the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. More fascinating is the revelation of the reason why Jesus chose to mention an unnamed woman from centuries ago in His summary of last day events.
CHAPTER TWO - Looking Back
Here we learn the scriptural explanation of why Lot's wife "looked back" and what it means for us today. Did God annihilate this woman because she was curious at the destruction behind her? And what does an unnamed woman really have to do with end time events? The answers are both revealing and surprising.
CHAPTER THREE - The Salt of the Earth
Lot's wife is the only person in the Bible having the distinction of being turned into a pillar of salt. This chapter explains some things from scripture that will make us take a closer look at salt metaphorically. We learn that it has many more applications than just dressing up our food. The Bible is full of related similes, including 'fire' and 'light' and we will look at them in relation to 'salt' to try to find out why God may have used this particular means as an end to Lot's wife.
CHAPTER FOUR - Why So Harsh?
This chapter discusses the punishment Lot's wife received for the indescretion of looking back. We will study scripture to find out if God was particularly harsh in turning this woman into a pillar of salt. We will also explore God's punishment of others throughout the Bible and try to determine if God was justified in His actions towards Lot's wife. We will answer a very important question: Is the gentle Jesus of the New Testament the same angry God of the Old? [Hint: the answer may surprise you!]
CHAPTER FIVE - Disobedience (a.k.a., Crime and Punishment)
Here we discuss the concept of human disobedience and its consequences. We will look at what scripture teaches about sin, its cost, and God's punishment for it. How does a merciful, loving God justify destruction of sinners? We'll find biblical answers to that question.
CHAPTER SIX - Cherished Sin and Intercession
This chapter explores the sins we harbor in our hearts and what God does about them. Here we will find Bible-based ways to be the people God wants us to be. We will also look at Jesus' role as our Intercessor and also, ultimately, as our Judge.
CHAPTER SEVEN - Who Told God?
An interesting look at what the Bible teaches about the Ancient of Days and His Omnipotence. Who is He and why is He in control of our destiny [as we choose, of course]? How does God know all we do, why we do it, and then decide our fate according to our decisions?
CHAPTER EIGHT - All Eyes on Jesus!
Here we will see the dangers of "looking back" and taking our eyes off of Jesus. This is one of Satan's oldest and most effective ploys. When we look at anything other than our Lord and His sacrifice on the cross for us, we're in deep trouble. We will see what happened to Simon Peter and others who had "vision problems."
CHAPTER NINE - Looking Forward
This is a study on the opposite side of Lot's wife's mistakes, a focus on the future. What will the ultimate reward be for those who remain faithful? Blessings both in this life and in the life to come will be explored through God's Word, The Holy Bible.
CHAPTER TEN - Lessons Learned
The final chapter summarizes some key points of the whole book. We will look at exactly what we learned from Lot's wife and how Jesus' admonition to us to remember her should be a daily reminder, not just an obscure passage of scripture. We will see how 'now' is better than the past, and how the future will be even better than both past and present.
